  • Biography:
The desire to create has always been with me.My first medium was fabric, I began sewing at the age of 14. Crocheting, knitting, and quilt making followed. In 1983, I took my first cake decorating class. More advanced classes and teaching seminar, through Wilton Industries, led me into a 16 year career of commercial baking, decorating, and teaching.

During my baking career, I continually took classes; drawing, watercolor and painting. A jewelry making class caught my attention and I kept signing up for each new class. Beading, wire wrapping, chain making and metal smithing. One of my instructors suggested I try the new Metal Clay material. I really did not want to start working in "one more medium". However, a ring class was being offered and I could not resist.

When the class was over, and I had completed my first ring, I knew I needed to learn more about this amazing medium. I sought out more advanced classes. I not only loved working with this material, I needed to teach it as well! Recently retired, I missed the creative aspect of my career, and I wanted to continue to teach.

In 2005 I received my certifications to teach in two national programs in PMC, through Rio Grande, and PMC Connection. In 2006 I received my level one certification in Art Clay, and my senior certification in May 2006.

The opportunity to be a part of such a creative team, working in a medium that has endless possibilities, fulfills a twofold dream: to work in an environment that encourages constant learning, and sharing that knowledge with others.
    Philosophy:
To me, life is a continual process of learning, growing and developing. We alternate between having the opportunity to teach at times, and the pleasure of being the student at others.

Teaching has been my joy throughout my career. It allows me to be a part of the creative process of each student for awhile. The response from students when they master new material, which first seemed impossible, is very rewarding. Every class I have taught I have learned something new from my students as well.

Art Clay offers a medium that lends itself to design, creativity and experimentation. All the elements that make teaching and working in this medium rewarding and fun!
