Biography: Out of high school I attended college, worked as a typist, packed peaches, got married, attended college, worked at Sears and the IRS, got divorced. I then worked at the local school district as a staff secretary for six people and eleven years. I met my current husband at elementary track and wrestling meets. I returned to college in 1988 and graduated with a BA in Psychology in 1992 and an MA in Counseling in 1995. I was also a substitute teacher for several years and received my teaching credential in 1998. I currently enjoy the independence of part-time employment. We currently live on 2.5 acres and enjoy the semi-country life with our various critters and the indigenous wildlife (i.e. skunks, opossums, coyotes, red tree squirrels, cottontails, king, gopher and racer snakes, egrets, ducks, and lots of frogs and toads). |
Philosophy: The first artists were recorders of the hunt, and embellishers of deerskins. They had a desire to tell as story or to make something that would enhance the practicality or beauty of their surrounding world. The expression of art, in all of its many forms, is a glimpse into the the artist's perception of the world. Artists never know how their art will be received; they just know that they have to be creative. I continue to explore, finding inspiration in nature's delicate balance and in my desire to learn from others.
From an early age I have enjoyed making things, though not always artistic, they were creative. I enjoy the media of watercolor, crafting, woodworking, gardening, cooking, jewelry making, lampworking, stained and fused glass, and sculpting Art Clay. My parents began their jewelry/opal business in 1974 and since that time I have been involved in jewelry making and lapidary
of some sort. My mother's initial interest in PMC sparked an interest in Art Clay. I enjoy mini-sculpting with the Art Clay medium. The creative possibilities are endless and extremely exciting. As an Art Clay Senior Instructor I enjoy seeing the pride of accomplishment that others find in creating and constructing their own unique piece of jewelry.
