  • Biography:
I am a jewelry and mixed-media artist who loves working in a variety of media. I’ve found that learning one art form inevitably leads to another. In Art Clay I’ve discovered a medium that incorporates so many of my loves – weaving techniques, fused glass, beading, and even elements of the paper arts such as rubber stamping and calligraphy. I also enjoy writing, and have been able to in corporate this love with my art by writing "how–to" articles. I’m an elementary school teacher, soon to retire, and the mother of five adult children. I especially enjoy helping young and young–at–heart students to discover their innate creative abilities, both in classes and with my written tutorials.
    Philosophy:
In my former life as a fourth grade reading and writing teacher, I found that with the right teaching techniques, we could help virtually any student learn. Yet we allow people to say that they aren’t artistic, when in reality they have simply never been taught how to make art. I believe that if I teach the proper techniques in a caring and encouraging fashion, students will find their creative powers. In one study, reasearchers found that the one thing creative people had in common was that they believed they were creative. As a teacher and as an artist, I try to nurture that belief in myself and others. In my own artwork, I am influenced by my garden, my reading, my travels, and my curiosity. I like experimenting with a variety of media and combining them in interesting ways.
