What do you love about Art Clay?
I love the spontaneity of this medium! It satisfies both of my passions: working with clay and making jewelry! My traditional metalsmithing, as well as sculptural ceramics background has been extremely helpful in understanding and experimenting with this material. |
What are your favorite Art Clay projects/creations?
My favorite projects/creations are what I am working on at the moment. I still love some of the early work that I did, but I find wonderful things about my new projects, too! I am currently doing a series of open shapes with fringe dangles. |
What other media do you work and/or teach in?
Other media… what don’t I do?! I love fiber, so I am passionate about knitting and love spinning my own yarn. I also have a loom that unfortunately does not get as much attention as I would like. I also make most of my own clothing. So, I needed a way to use up the scraps of fabric I was collecting and looked into quilting for a bit. I then discovered soft sculpture art dolls, and now I sell those as a sideline at my annual jewelry show. I am currently looking for a new studio space to start teaching both Art Clay and other beaded jewelry classes.

Biography:
My father taught Electronics, Calculus and Physics, while my mother was an Artist. I work part–time as a bookkeeper for Georgie’s Ceramic & Clay Co. It keeps me close to creative people and yet fulfills the number cruncher part of my brain. I have a husband that is supportive of my mess and actually helps me to create more! I spend time each month with my friends in the knitting group, the doll group, and the bead society. Whenever possible, I take time to quilt with my sister and spend time with her girls. Life is good. |
Philosophy:
Knowledge should be shared. People need encouragement. Everything is possible if you want it enough. Share, laugh loud, and enjoy whom you are with at the moment. That’s my philosophy in a nutshell. |
