Artist Of The Month - November 2009
What do you love about Art Clay? I love that Art Clay allows me to create in a more genuine, organic manner, and I love the tactile feel and workability of the clay. I also appreciate the fine finishing I can achieve with Art Clay. I work with other media too, but love the flexibility and looks I can achieve with the clay. |
What are your favorite Art Clay projects/creations? I love the endless possibilities. I get bored easily. Art Clay has kept my interest for almost 10 years. The variety of products and uses has kept my imagination active for all these years. I still feel the "magic" every time I create a new piece. |
What other media do you work and/or teach in? Right now I am doing quite a bit of ceramic work. Just as with Art Clay I am drawn to the organic component of both types of clay. I love the feel of clay on my fingers. There is something so calming about it. I am enjoying working on larger projects. |
Biography: I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. I attended college at the University of Boulder and married my soul mate. I gave birth to three beautiful daughters there, owned and operated a cookie store and later a wholesale bakery. I love being an entrepreneur. It’s just another form of creating. We moved to Los Angeles in 1990, where I gave birth to daughter number four. In between carpools and various sport practices and games, I designed a line of baby clothing (hiring other "stay at home" moms) which I sold in five states. I taught Great Works of Art in elementary school for eleven years. I was Art Director for a local variety show for three years; designing, creating, and managing up to 25 people, while we completed between 22 and 28 sets each year.
When Art Clay World came to America, I was hired as their National Marketing Director. I quickly realized I loved working with the products more, so I transitioned into becoming a Senior Instructor. I studied intensively with their Japanese instructor until I had been trained in the Japanese method. Since then, I have taught every level and spent my creative energy designing, making and selling one of a kind jewelry and wall art.
The last few years I have been busy designing a house and planning the weddings of my two oldest daughters. This year my daughters both gave birth to my grandchildren. My third daughter graduated college, my youngest graduated high school and began her college career.
Now, I have decided to merge both of my passions, creating businesses and designing jewelry. I have designed four commercial lines of pendants. I am about to start selling in five different cities and on line. My company name is S~wear.
Wish me luck :-). |
Philosophy: One of my philosophies is to love what you do and you will be successful. If you enjoy whatever it is you are doing, then it will not feel like work and you can happily do your job every day. That is what I have found in Art Clay; an endless supply of happy days. |
