What do you love about Art Clay?
Art Clay allowed me to merge my two passions, Art and Nature, to create unique Jewellery Art pieces.

With my Ikebana background, my passion for flowers and organic forms is why I was drawn to Art Clay Silver.

Art Clay inspired me to sculpt my work, a welcomed addition to traditional fabrication. Being a ductile medium allowed me to create using traditional and non–traditional techniques and combining many other different mediums with it. The ability to design in 3–D, sculpt and create organic forms was what I was looking for. I wanted those viewing my work to see the very fine details that I feel are the true essence of the art piece I’ve sculpted.
What are your favorite Art Clay projects/creations?
I feel that every one-of-a-kind art piece is unique and is created with my Heart, and Soul.
What other media do you work and/or teach in?
As a metalsmith I like to work in sterling silver, pure silver, gold, copper, bronze and fabricate handmade chains. I add colour to my art by using gemstones, and techniques such as keum boo, and enamelling. I enjoy teaching all levels of metal clay, certification classes, basic fabrication techniques, soldering, chainmaking, and basic design.
Biography:
Sophia Tink is the owner of Sophia Tink Jewellery Art Studio in the beautiful Haliburton Highlands in Ontario Canada, where she gets her inspiration.

Since 1982, Sophia is a professional artist and instructor of one–of–a–kind offerings. She is formally trained with the Sogetsu Ikebana School in the Japanese Art of Floral Design and a graduate from the Jewellery Arts program at the Haliburton School of the Arts Sir Sandford Fleming College located in Ontario, Canada.

In 2004 she achieved her Level One Certification in Art Clay Silver and in 2006 she became an Art Clay Silver Senior Level Jewellery Maker/Instructor. Currently Sophia is a faculty member of the Haliburton School of the Arts Fleming College. She also teaches in her own studio and at site locations.

Sophia has been recognized for her work throughout the world, including the 2007 MCWC Exhibition USA, the 2008 Silver Accessories Magazine Japan, and the 2008 North American Design Competition. She has participated in Art Clay Silver TV documentaries as well. Along with her gallery work, her art pieces have been sold to customers in Germany, England, Scotland, Japan, North America, Argentina, and the Netherlands.
Philosophy:
Individualistic, Imaginative, and Identifiable is how I would describe my work. My art pieces are hand sketched, sculpted, finely detailed and finished to the highest metalsmithing standards. Quality is of the utmost importance to me along with design sensibility, but the smiles on my customer’s faces are why I create Jewellery Art.

I find teaching at Haliburton School of the Arts Fleming College incredibly gratifying. It is always a pleasure to see the excitement on the faces of the students as they first start to remove the white binding agent from the surface of their pieces, to reveal the splendour of pure silver and seeing their art pieces coming to life. Teaching technique is extremely important to me because once proper techniques are understood and mastered only then can design and execution follow. With these tools, there is no stopping the student’s creative possibilities!
