Artist Of The Month - April 2010
What do you love about Art Clay? I love the responsiveness of Art Clay. In a world where we are isolating more, walling off for myriad reasons including fear, Art Clay unlike any other media can become a quick expression for inexperienced or well seasoned hands. Art Clay has allowed me to work with men and women, from age 7 to 70, from all walks of life; in a spontaneous way, I have been privileged to guide them through a successful outcome in an introduction of the materials. What a gift! |
What are your favorite Art Clay projects/creations?
I enjoy using Art Clay Silver Lump, Syringe and paste especially. I like to incorporate ACS into my ‘whole’ design which often uses several materials to pull together color, texture and light. The possibilities continue to present with each new technique that I try. Time is the only limitation that I experience. |
What other media do you work and/or teach in? I teach traditional metalworking techniques, flat glass fabrication, wool work (spinning, felting, needlepoint, knitting, crocheting) silk painting. |
Biography: Ohio native Stacia Davis Moore works in a variety of materials including glass, metals, clay and fibers. Her metals background has breadth and depth starting from her education at Ohio University where she earned a BFA degree. Davis Moore established and ran a small metals program at O.U. and was distinguished by having her work acquired for the O.U. President’s collection. She further enhanced her metals career by working in an art foundry fabricating and casting artist’s designs from table top sculptures to larger–than–life monuments. Twelve years devoted to the family manufacturing company put a pause to many traditional creative expressions although fiber works filled the void. Glass became a passion when a new teaching studio was built because it readily allowed color and large scale work to come alive. As the long stored metal tools began to unpack, a client asked for lessons in metal clay and that inquiry led me to Art Clay World. I have been teaching techniques and leading workshops in Art Clay since 2005. |
Philosophy: Being an artist is a privilege, one that I treasure every day. To me, all of life is energy and my artistic creations are contemplations of energy as I relate to the chakras. With each color, I concentrate on the associated symbols, lessons and healing that work the energy of my body, emotions, mind and spirit.
I am grateful to share my visions with you. It is my hope that each piece reflects my joy and light and serves as a reminder of the serenity that comes from within. And when a piece is worn it is my desire that each piece will support the individual’s beauty; a reflection of your energy and inner knowing. |
Awards / Recognition: My work was included in the Best of 2008 Show sponsored by the Ohio Designer Craftsmen. It is sold through the Akron Art Museum (Ohio) and several gallery locations through the state. I am a Creativity Coach, working with individuals, teams and corporations to create their highest potential |
